Welcome Letter

President’s Welcome

Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the 2017 International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS) Symposium that will be held in Bucharest, Romania from 19 – 23 August.

Bucharest is a vibrant city, offering an idyllic blend of both modern and historic architecture. Being one of the largest cities in Europe, it offers many attractions including: beautiful parks and museums, trendy coffee shops, as well as being home to the most expensive administrative building in the world – The Palace of Parliament.

Building on the past successes of symposia held in Cape Town (2014), Brisbane (2015) and Windhoek (2016), the IASSS plans to bring delegates the most advanced and innovative program yet. From internationally renowned speakers, to practical workshops of the highest quality, the 2017 IASSS Symposium will be the highlight for any student interested in the art of surgery. We also hope to bring together delegates from across the globe, both developed and developing countries, to learn and work alongside one another.

In addition to a world-class scientific schedule, delegates will have the opportunity to explore the wonders of Bucharest through several social events.

Please remain updated on Symposium details through our webpage.

I look forward to welcoming you to Bucharest in August 2017.

Yours sincerely,
Alex Scott
IASSS President

Convenor’s Welcome

To the medical students of today and the surgeons of tomorrow,

The Romanian Student Society of Surgery is honoured to host one of the most anticipated student surgical events of the year—The 2017 International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS) Symposium. We would like to extend a cordial invitation to join us from the 19th to the 23rd of August, 2017 in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, to participate in this unique event. IASSS will be facilitating surgical education of students, while simultaneously promoting global interconnection among surgical societies throughout the globe.

This summer we aim to place students and medical professionals in an atmosphere of educational excellence that will allow them to not only explore, but also push the envelopes of the surgical craft. This year’s theme is “Overcoming Barriers” and the five days of the Symposium will be dedicated to breaching the constraints of geography, culture, and language in the field of surgery; only in unity can we make a meaningful impact.

“Little Paris” will be happy to host you as you embark on a five-day groundbreaking journey: scrub into challenging debates about the future of the surgical field; get inspired by lectures and experiences delivered by top knot surgeons; learn more about your field of interest through workshops, round tables, and contests.

The Symposium will move you one step closer to your dream. We welcome all interested students to confront the most challenging surgical fields—from plastics and cardiovascular surgery, to orthopedics and neurosurgery, with the help of the most talented and experienced surgeons of our time. We look forward to seeing you in Bucharest, at the 2017 IASSS Surgical Symposium to change the way you perceive the medical world, opportunities and limits, as surgeons of tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Dana Pisica
